Woman Stumped When Boy Crawls Into Lap, But When She Looks Down The Weirdest Thing Happens

Where Is He?

Fort Meade SoundOff!

She looked around, her heart pounding. She fixed her eyes on every single person around her, searching for that familiar face. Where was he? He’d been sitting beside her only a few minutes ago. But that little boy couldn’t sit still. Then she looked up a few bleachers above her and had to do a double take. There he was. But what surprised her was what he was doing -- and especially who he was with.

Go Vikings!

Valdosta Today

But Star Balloon-Bradley never thought she’d witness something like that, at a football game of all places. And she has been to a lot of them. Living in Valdosta, Georgia, it is hard not to catch football fever. The local high school football team, the Lowndes Vikings, are 12-time regional champions and 5-time state champions. Star tries to attend their home games every chance she gets. And not just her -- it’s a big family affair.

Football Diehards

Star and her family are regulars at the Vikings home games and even some away games. Every season they are there, cheering for the boys. They know every player and all their stats. The games are a sort of family bonding time for them, as they instill their love of football in their children. Star has two kids, and her brother does as well. All of them are fast friends. But it’s one of the boys who can sometimes be a handful.

Restless Little Boy

Four-year-old Isaiah is Star’s nephew. He is a loving, friendly boy and his family loves him very much. But there’s one problem. He can’t sit still. Perhaps it’s a phase, or it’s inherent in his personality, but Isaiah is always walking off whenever he gets the chance. It’s a good thing that the family is big so there’s always someone to keep an eye on him when they go out. But, every once in a while, they find him in the strangest of places. Like at a recent football game.

Making His Way Through The Crowd

The Balloon family were at a Vikings’ home game last September. It was a nail-biting encounter, and everyone was focused on the action. That is, everyone but little Isaiah. He decided to walk around the bleachers aimlessly. It wasn’t too crowded so his parents weren’t concerned, as they could easily spot him. Star watched him as he walked up to a woman who was sitting by herself, looked at her, and smiled. Then he did something unexpected.

Talking To A Stranger

Isaiah started talking to the woman. Star was surprised, as he was usually a shy boy who didn’t easily talk to strangers. She turned to Thameka Miller, Isaiah’s mom, and asked her if they knew the lady that the little boy was talking to. Thameka looked closer and said they didn’t. “I was skeptical because he did not know her and we didn’t know her," remembers Thameka. The two women watched the interaction with prying eyes.

Chattier Than Ever

The little boy stood there, chatting to this strange lady, for almost 20 minutes. His mother and aunt had no idea what they could be talking about. Before they knew it, it was halftime. The woman stood up and Star overheard her tell Isaiah that she had to go meet her daughter. She left, and the boy casually walked back to his family. His mother asked him who that was, but he didn’t know the woman’s name. Soon, everyone forgot about the encounter -- until two weeks later.

Vanished Again

At the next home game, the whole family was there again. And Isaiah, restless as he is, soon started to walk around the bleachers again. This game was even more exciting than the last, and everyone was engrossed in what was happening on the field. All of a sudden, Star realized Isaiah was nowhere in sight. She looked left and right and couldn’t find him. Then she turned around and looked a few bleachers above them. And then she saw it.

In Her Lap

Isaiah was up in the bleachers with the same woman he had met two weeks earlier. But this time, the scene that Star was witnessing was even more startling. The boy was sitting on the woman’s lap, with his head on her shoulder and his eyes closed. The woman appeared to be rocking him to sleep. Mortified, Star quickly walked up to where they were sitting.

Her New Friend

Star asked the woman if she wanted her to take the boy. “I told her tonight that I am so sorry and I don’t know why he keeps bothering her,” she wrote on Facebook. But the woman’s response was unexpected. She told Star that Isaiah was no bother. “She said he was her new friend.” And then, she told Star the reason why she was so happy to have him in her arms.

They Grow Up So Fast

The woman told Star that she only has one child, a 15-year-old daughter. She added that moments like this, what she was experiencing with Isaiah, are priceless. Star was touched by this revelation and decided to leave Isaiah with the woman until he woke up. By the time the game ended, he was back with his parents. But the encounter stayed in everyone’s minds.

Expressing Gratitude

Star realized she hadn’t asked the woman her name, but wanted to thank her for her kind gestures toward her little nephew. She posted a photo of Isaiah in the lady’s arms and recounted the whole story. “I hate I didn’t get her name but I will next game because I’m sure Isaiah will make his way back to her,” she wrote. Then the Internet worked its magic.

Her Identity Is Revealed

Star’s post quickly went viral, being shared more than 330,000 times. Eventually, it made its way to the unknown woman, who reached out to Star. Her name is Angela During, and she is a pastor’s wife from Valdosta. Humbled by the outpouring of praise, she sent a message to Star, who also shared it on Facebook.

Humble Words

“I have been overwhelmed with emotions today as I have read the post Star Balloon-Bradley shared. I am humbled by the kind words everyone has spoken. Isaiah is absolutely adorable! I pray people will see Jesus in all this & know His love is beyond measure & that is how I want to love & live my life. I’m not worthy but He sure is!” Angela wrote. Isaiah’s whole family was ecstatic after finally knowing the identity of Isaiah’s new friend.

A Message Of Love

"Isaiah can come across shy at first, but some people he immediately warms up to, and Mrs. Angela During is one of those persons," said Thameka, Isaiah’s mom. And she’s not surprised by how popular this story has become. "I think with the racial tension that has manifested lately this story helps to restore hope in humanity and it shows the power of love. Also the innocence of a child and how love has no color boundaries."
